2026 Hobonichi Yuichi Inoue Amenimo Makezu Weeks Hardcover Book English (Monday/January Start)

The works of calligrapher Yuichi Inoue—known for breaking free from the confines of traditional calligraphy and creating bold, powerful pieces full of life—have been made into a Weeks.

In addition to his iconic ichijisho—works in which he boldly wrote a single large kanji character—Yuichi Inoue also created many pieces using conté crayon. This cover features one such work, his rendition of the poem Be Not Defeated by the Rain (Amenimo Makezu) by poet Kenji Miyazawa.

It’s said that Inoue kept writing even when the conté crayon broke, scratching out mistakes with intense strokes and pushing forward in a single burst of energy. To capture that raw emotion, the cover is made of a rough, canvas-like material with a gritty texture. The cover has been constructed as a light hardcover book with some give to it so it still bends.

The off-white cover is designed to highlight the raw beauty of the calligraphy, featuring the opening and closing lines of Be Not Defeated by the Rain. The spine is accented with an energizing shade of orange.

The print faithfully reproduces the varying shades of ink, smudges, and texture of the original strokes. Take a moment to look closely and appreciate every detail.

The year 2026 and the English credit for the artwork are stamped in matte silver foil. The clean, minimal finish is designed to let the calligraphy take center stage.

* This Weeks comes with a bonus: a Hobonichi Pencil Board featuring the full text of Be Not Defeated by the Rain. The front side displays the calligraphy in navy blue on a green background, evoking the imagery of rain and wind. The reverse side is off-white and features the iconic phrase “Be not defeated by the rain, Nor let the wind prove your better.” Enjoy the world of Yuichi Inoue’s calligraphy.

The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. It's characterized by its ability to hold ink well and provide a smooth writing experience.

The Weeks book has space for writing in plans or journal entries, and it also has 71 pages of grid paper memo pages in the back (75 pages in the English edition). The back of the book contains bonus pages, including Memories 2026 and 12 Switches to Help You Focus.

If you’d like storage space or a way to change up the look of your Weeks book, you can customize your book by pairing it with a Weeks cover.

The Tomoe River paper designed for planners is known for its thinness and smooth writing surface. However, depending on the type and amount of ink or pen used—as well as environmental conditions—some ink may bleed through or take longer to dry. We recommend testing your pens on an inconspicuous area first, or using a pencil board or blotting paper for best results.
