Undyed natural black Shetland yarn is just stunning. It has a deep rich colour that is perfect to use as a contrast in any number of colourwork or Fair Isle patterns. This particular batch is very soft to the touch, woollen spun but still a 4ply weight yarn. At 220m per 50g skein its relatively economical too. 100% non Superwash Shetland yarn from the sheep on the islands that roam quite freely feeding on natural heathers and seaweed on the beaches. Rustic in nature both the climate and the diet of the flocks produces a wool that is warm and strong. Shetland yarn can sometimes feel a little coarse compared to other yarn from sheep in warmer climates but after a few wears & careful washes it will begin to soften.
This is a non-Superwash yarn and as such we highly recommend the use of a wool specific soap to wash gently in cool water, do not wash in a machine or felting of the yarn will occur.
We recommend the use of a skein winder/swift to hold your yarn at the correct tension whilst caking your skeins to avoid unnecessary tangles in the yarn.
